Blog Post #7 – First Thoughts on House Style

 Welcome to my study on house style!

House style is the specific usage and editing conventions followed by writers and editors to ensure stylistic consistency in a particular publication or series of publications. 

I think that house style is made with specific colors meant to give a mood. This is paired with a font that can give the magazine a elegant, formal, or fun design.

House styles are used so that the media can easily be recognized by anyone who sees it.

House styles are influenced by their genre so that it can show the type of mood to expect within the media.

House styles are influenced by their purpose by showing the font. It can be fun if it is a gossip media. Formal if it is a business or informational media. It can be an elegant font if it is a fashion type of media.

This idea of house style has changed the way I look at magazines by giving me the information to analyze a magazine cover and make an educated guess as to the type of content the magazine will contain.
